Plus Size Wedding Dresses: Fabulous Tips to Looking Your Very Best

Plus Size Wedding DressWe have all dreamed of our wedding day since we were little girls.  We all want to look our best and the way to look our best is with the dress that we choose.  As a plus size woman, I understand that it can be a tedious experience shopping for a wedding dress that will flatter your best assets and hide the problems areas.  So, to help create less of a tedious experience for you, I’ve compiled a small guide below to help you find the perfect plus size wedding dress that will have you looking your best on your wedding day.

Dress for Your Body Shape

One of the most important things to remember is that you need to know the type of body shape that you have in addition to your problems areas and where your best assets are.

If you a curvy, you’ll probably want to opt for an a-line wedding dress whereas if you are busty, a v-neckline would be proficient as would halters and scoop necks.  Full skirts are an excellent choice for the curvy plus sized woman.

If you have an hourglass figure, an A-line would be the ideal choice.  Opt for a dress that has something to bring eyes to your waistline such as beading, a sash, or embellishment.

If you have a pear-shaped figure, a strapless dress would be an excellent choice to bring attention to your upper half.  If strapless is out of the question, try for a halter top or even an a-line dress.

Wedding dresses that are floor length are a more proper choice for almost any plus size woman than a tea-length wedding dress.

Don’t Be Afraid Show Off Your Shoulders and Back

Don’t be afraid to show off your shoulders with a strapless gown if you have beautiful shoulders.  The same goes for your back – if you have a sexy back, show it off!  Don’t hide it! You’d be crazy to do so; therefore, get yourself an open back wedding dress.

Comfort

Above all else, make sure you are comfortable in the wedding dress that you choose.  Being plus size is an upset all on its own so there is no need to add to it with an uncomfortable wedding dress.

What to Avoid

Avoid wedding dresses with layers as this only creates a bulky look and feel causing you to appear larger than you are.    You will also want to avoid tight-fitting plus size wedding dresses as well as spaghetti straps when possible.

If you want to keep from appearing bottom heavy then avoid ball gown skirts. In order to avoid attention to your waistline, don’t purchase a wedding dress that has beading, pleating, or anything of the like at the waist.

Keep in Mind

Remember, plus size women can be beautiful too – you just need to know what you are doing when purchasing a plus size wedding dress.  With the proper knowledge, as stated above, you’ll be as beautiful and as confident as ever when you walk down that aisle on your wedding day.
